Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I tend to find grammatical mistakes and I pay close attention to overall flow of work. I tend to be brutally honest in my critisisms but not in a derogitory way. I praise where I believe praise is due and I always try to give constructive advice on strengthening a piece. I have been known to rearrange sentences, point out where paragraphs may be out of place, and find sentences where the meanings are vague or incomplete.
I dont mince words much, so my critique is short and to the point. I will make several suggestions on alternate methods of delivery of a given concept.
I love to read, so I can usually finish an entire critique in less than a day, depending on when I manage to log on to the computer. Drop me a line if you are interested. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have excellent grammar, a massive vocabulary, and I love to get into a character's head to imagine what they must be thinking. I tend to have several ideas of the way certain situations can go, so I will offer several different opinions on a given piece. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I can be a little too candid in my critisisms. I tend to come down hard on Mary-Sues, as I dont particularly enjoy reading them and most people I know feel the same way. Original characters who are not Mary-Sues are somewhat safe from my wrath, but I will still keep an eagle's eye on those creations. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love to read canon stories, mostly cartoons or video game related. I have a weakness for romance, action adventure, some angst, and I love humor. I can deal with heterosexual and homosexual content, as long as it is tastefully done on both counts. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not a fan of smut stories. Sex in a story is fine, as long as it has justification. I don't like stories that have to do with rape, illegal sexual activities, super-emo, or chronic drug use when it takes a character too far out of their original development. |
