Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Ok, if you wish for me to read and review your story with feedback, let me just start off saying that if you don't want harsh criticism, I'm probably who you want. Unless you want me to attempt to be harsh and picky, though that's not my style. I'm a critic and beta-reader at work, so I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. There are most likely beta-readers out there who are much more skilled then me, have better more well trained eyes for simple and or uncommon mistakes, etc.
Other than that I don't know what to really say about myself as a beta-reader. I'm sorta slow, and have a lot of work on my plates as far as life and fanfictions go, and I'm not perfect. I make mistakes, and I'd love for beta-readers to check out my stories. It might take me a while to get to your story, and I'm not very patient, so if it's long it may take me a while.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Strengths? Um, where to start and what to even mention. I love to write, but that doesn't mean I'm the best. I actually rely and learn from Word and my English teachers.
I guess my strengths would be grammar to an extent. My mom speaks broken English, so at times I question if I'm right or not, but in the end, I usually get it. I'm alright with punctuation.
I can pick out run-on sentences, incomplete ones, and what not. I'm into description and I'm good with deciding whether a story as too much or too little, or too much at one time, etc.
If you need help with the simple question "Is my plot too original" or things about plots, I guess I'm ok. By that I mean, I'm picky about overly used plots. Unless you're an excellent author or authoress and you manage to make the story interesting and your characters are diverse and not some sues or stues, I might read it.
Strengths in writing and reading, I know much about the Xiaolin Showdown, and I love to write romances and adventures; I'm not the best with mystery, but I love to write it. I'm into fictional pieces and fairy tails.
Another semi strength is that I'm ok with helping with character development. I absolutely loath Mary Sues and Gary Stus. If I catch you with one in your story I'll be sure to tell you and give you some reference sites, say a few things, and will be willing to help. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
:D Ah, my weaknesses. I'm getting better with this, but my main weakness is flat out just being able to criticize. I'm getting better about being honest and straight forward, and you can expect that from me most of the time.
Another weakness of mine that has to do with actually writing stories, is spelling and vocabulary. If you're looking for someone to give you synonyms for an overly used descriptive word (use the dictionary...), then I can help to an extent. But as far as meaning as words, vocab and spelling are, indeed, my weaknesses.
Another is probably patience. If your fanfic suddenly gets very boring, redundant compared to other stories that yours happens to be similar to, I'll probably loose interest fast. Not to say that I'll drop betareading your fanfic, but I may just be a little slow. And another is probably that I tend to read quickly, so I may miss things. I may reread it if you want me to make sure, but my 'eagle eye' isn't the sharpest tool in the shed either. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories based of Xiaolin Showdown, or Disney related things. If your story is simple a fairy tail, or something like that, I'll consider reading it as well. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Basically, I'm not going to beta read anything that isn't related to Xiaolin Showdown or Disney. I don't like scifi, mystery, murder, Twilight, other cartoons that aren't Disney, etc. I'm just a bitch that way. >:) |
