Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I currently hold a degree in English and am a tutor at the local college. I focus on both grammar and content when reading a piece of work and would never disrupt the integrity of the story. I also look at sentence structure and flow, trying to maintain these is very important to the story and to maintain a consistency that allows the reader to enter the world you have created for them. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I believe my strength as a writer is to keep the characters well, in character. I also believe the flow of my stories allows my readers to envelope themselves into my world. I have adopted one story that was a bit OOC to begin with but I liked the storyline so much I kept it that way. If you have a story that is OOC, I am fine with that and will keep in character with what you have written. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Wow, a weakness. We have weaknesses? Ok, I would have to say the one thing I have had to do the most writing research on is the use of dialog in my stories, how to format it in a way that allows it to flow seamlessly. I also learned the hard way that text that is broken up is best for this particular venue of publication. I really don't think these are weeknesses, well they were, but now they are not. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really can’t say I have a preference for what stories I would like to beta, but I tend to lean towards stories that involve the journey of a relationship between two people who love each other. It’s the journey that entices me to read more and I would love to be a part of the process of bringing it to life. I have an interesting love/hate relationship when it comes to angst. I hate it, but it makes the journey to the end that much more fulfilling. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
In my line of work I come across a multitude of people writing about personal experiences and I maintain an open mind while correcting their papers, keeping in mind this is their paper and not mine. The only thing I really would prefer not to edit is something that would constitute some kind of abuse or something illegal. |
