Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am quite intrigued by this beta-reader setup, and thought I'd get into the game early. To be quite frank, I'll beta anything, since I love to give my opinion (a little too often, I might add), and I get tickled when a writer has an opportunity to grow due to my critiques and, oftentimes, my mechanical corrections. NOTE: I beta all sorts of pairings, slash or otherwise.
My style is typically to point out all grammatical and spelling errors--known by Microsoft Word or otherwise--and generally tidy up the piece. I like to keep a lot of things the same stylistically speaking, since I don't want your work to become mine, but I will put in my two cents on about what, syntactically speaking, would sound best. Whether you choose to listen to my advice or not is completely up to you, but I believe that the point of getting beta is to expand on your writing and help to see everything you create as your very best.
My only requirement if you would like to have me beta your stories is that you be patient; I am very busy from time to time, and I will almost never take just a day to finish beta'ing. I also believe in effort, and therefore will sacrifice the element of alacrity for such. I hope you feel the same way.
Thank you for listening to me ramble; I hope that I am found worthy to beta your piece. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am incredibly skilled, in my opinion, at detail. My imagery stands out as something that defines me, I think, and it makes my work more real. I'm not one to dwell on sentences that take on the "this happened then this happened then this happened" structure. Also, my figurative language and attention to mechanics are very developed, which makes me, respectively, a very honed writer. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
The only thing I can think of right now is that I am horrible with procrastination. This is one of the reasons I want to beta-read: in order to rectify this problem. Other than that, I am flawed with interest switches. In other words, I am very volatile about what I do, which can and quite possibly will affect my beta-reading. However, my goal is to persevere for not my own sake, but my clent's. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I enjoy books and anime, so as far as genre goes, these are my specialties. I love dramatic works, as I write quite a bit of these myself, and will tend to perform to the best of my beta-reading abilities in the event that such a genre is presented as my charge. However, I will beta any and everything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will admit that I am lacking in the humour genre. I am not very good at writing it, and nor will I be able to enhance the comedic goals of such a piece. I will be able to help with mechanics and syntax and such, but other than that...you're on your own. |
