Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Let me get this straight. NOTHING annoys me more than a story that is poorly edited, although I have to say I do a lackadaisy job on my own stories, just because I don't care for my own stories, since no one reads them anyway. But when I click on a story and immediately notice all those easily corrected and painstakingly obvious mistakes, it ticks me off. As a betareader, I like to fix all those little mistakes and make a story nice and shiny before it makes its way onto the world-wide net./p
Usually, when I beta-read a story, I have the writer email it to me as a whole document, each chapter at a time. After going over it and fixing the mistakes (if any) I save it under a file I have created and then send it back to the writer for them to post. I prefer microsoft, but only because it has a nice, shiny spellcheck and word count. (Now I will also use DocX, as provided by fanfiction.com.)/p
I'll betaread just about any story, even if I know nothing about its genre. I might even be willing to go full out and research whatever it is you are writing about, just to make sure you have all the facts correct. It's funny when you're reading a story and the writer contradicts themselves./p

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Punctuation, tenses and phrasing in sentences, and spellcheck are my strongest attributes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to get bored easily and will put off editing a story if I do not find it interesting. Although, if it wasn't interesting, I'd probably tell that to the author in a very straight-forward way. XD |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I adore romance and action, and even some angst and drama. I'm also a total anime lover, and if you mention a series to me I've probably heard of it, if not watched it for myself. Also, I have an addiction to stories that are at least 5,000 words long. Yaoi and yuri stories keep me alive! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Cross-overs and the like aren't welcome in my territory, but you can always try and coerce me. |
