Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been writing since I was like 12 so I feel like I have quite a bit of experience. I also beta read for my friends, usually catching grammatical errors and spelling mistakes more than anything else although I don't mind pointing out other little bits that could be made better by doing this or that and I take no offense if someone doesn't take any or all of my advice. I also offer up words of encouragement or just help to those who ask for it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm not the best speller myself but I'm good at catching most spelling and grammar mistakes. The spell checker on most word processing programs will only catch so much but I feel like I can catch a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes by reading carefully enough. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
From time to time, I may read through a story too quickly and may gloss over a mistake or two. That seems to happen very rarely but I'm only human and do admit to missing some spelling or grammar mistakes from time to time. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm open to beta reading most stories but prefer it to be on a subject that I'm familiar with. If it's for a book I haven't read or a show I haven't watched or something, I don't always enjoy reading the story which to me is part of the whole process. I have to enjoy the story and the subject matter to really want to beta read something. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories that feature too much violence or other graphic context aren't my thing. I understand that some violence or harsh language or sexual content are 'necessary' but when it's not necessary, I don't like having to deal with it. So are stories based in genres that I'm not familiar with. I'm not a comic book fan so most stories based on comics wouldn't be my thing. Otherwise I'm open. Oh and no Mary Sues or Gary Stus would be preferred but I suppose those 'characters' slip into stories now and then, huh? *L* |
