Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a open-minded beta, and I'll refuse very little, although some things take major preference over others. I spend a lot of time writing myself, so I think it's fair to say that even though I haven't uploaded much stuff yet, I have a good amount of experience.
When sending me a story to beta, I'd expect that you've read over it at least once after you've written it. I know it sounds like common sense, but I do know someone who will just write out her chapters then give them straight to me without going over it at all. There's not much point sending it to me if you haven't read over it once or twice to make sure you're happy with how it sounds.
I won't interfere with the storyline at all, but I will offer constructive criticism when I think it's needed. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and spelling are two things I'm quite good at, due to having lots of practice proofreading over my friends work (she couldn't use good grammar to save her life). And besides, poor grammar really annoys me. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to be very busy with school and other things in my life, so it may take a few days for the story to get beta'd, a week at most. However, if you tell me up front that you need it done faster than that, I'll make sure I do. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As you can see below, I am not that picky with what I beta (although I'm not likely to accept beta requests outside of what's listed).
Slash is my preferred medium, but not femslash. I've got nothing against it, I've just never found a pairing I like. I won't say no to one though. If you have something people may find offensive, chances are I won't mind it. I'm pretty open-minded.
Genre wise, I'll beta pretty much anything. I prefer multi-chapter stories over one-shots, but I'll do either. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
As mentioned above, femslash isn't my thing, unless I find a good pairing, which so far I haven't. Neither is het, but as mentioned above, I'll beta both anyway if I'm not doing anything else at the time.
I'm not a fan of parody. Dark themes are good, but I'm also a fan of happy endings. Again, if it ends in tragedy, I'm not going to refuse if I have nothing else to work on. |
