Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've betaed several stories so far, and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. I'm not looking to change anybody's story or be a control-freak. If there's problems, I'll try my best to fix them. If I have suggestions I'll talk with you about them, but I respect the rights of you authors out there. Creative license is my motto.
I'm supposed to tell you my expections as well, according to the site. To be honest, the only expectation I have is that you enjoy the story you're writing. I don't want to waste my time with someone who will quit on their fic after posting a few chapters. I want someone who loves their story like their child (which, in essence, it sort of is) and who is willing to spend a few hours writing for the sake of their adoring reviewers. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am always proof-reading my classmate's writings for grammatical errors, especially spelling. I am skilled with the use of a semicolon and can spell 'antidisestablishmentarianism' without breaking a sweat. Granted, the dictionary is my best friend, as is the thesaurus. I love to find mistakes and fix them; it's my goal in life. (Okay, not really, but you get the point.) I think I am better at improving other people's writing than actually writing my own fics, but I'm an okay poet. I also know a lot of synonyms so with me as your beta, you won't repeat a word over and over again. So...yeah. That's why I should be your beta! |

I need rehab for my comma addiction. But I most likely will not add commas to your writing unless I believe it specifically calls for one. However, in my own writing I tend to go a little overboard. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer Harry Potter stories since that is the genre I know the most about. (I'm an HP fanatic.) But I'll beta anything for grammar, I just won't be able to fix the storyline if something's wrong. |
