Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I am quite straightforward but not harsher than I need to be. I usually go easier on people who have just started or are new to the story. The one thing I am picky about are names and dates. If you are off on your story (heading in a bad direction) I will whip you into shape without any coddling so get ready for a workout if I see misspellings or incorrect names!!!
As the writer I expect you to proofread as much as you can spelling and grammatically as you can so that you can improve as an editor. I will thoroughly explain everything to you so that you can understand it clearly and learn from it but I expect you to go teach somebody else after you have become a better writer/editor. Overall, my goal is to help you improve so that you can become a better writer after I am no longer helping you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good at noticing grammatical and spelling errors. They seem to jump out a mile at me. Also, contradictions in your writing stand out a lot. If you say something that doesn't fit in properly with your storyline, I'll see it. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am weak when it comes to errors involving semicolons. They will be the death of me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories that involve both romance and action as I am quite partial to fluffy yet exciting stories and really admire people who have the guts to jump into those difficult genres of writing. Remember, I am here to help improve your stories and give advice. I myself, usually write romance/action or romance/adventure so I know the ropes and lots of tricks. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I would not betaread stories with a storyline that makes no sense or is so poorly written that my editing would change it completely. I also do not like it when the characters are very OOC so try to keep them in character if you want my help. |
