Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi! I have done a lot of beta-ing for regular fiction and short stories, although I'm new to fanfiction.
If you want to have me as a beta-reader, you have to be willing to take serious critisism. If I hate your work, I will tell you in so many words, although I will usually tell you what I dislike and how to improve it.
~You also must set it up more as a story than a screen play. That means discriptions! I love 'em. They're great.
~I like plot, if your work bores me, I'll probably slip up.
~Also, the main type is to be REGULAR. It's happened where I've seen stories that are all in italics. I hate it.
~Finally, if you're coming to me with a song fic, you cannot have it every other line. THere can be some at the top, bottom, or both, but not in the middle. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
~I'm a pretty good jack-of-all-trades. I'm good at catching spelling, noticing inconsistancies, coming up with synonyms, and making sure things make sense.
~I am also open to almost any style, as long as reading it doesn't give me a headache.
~For my own writing, I'm good at coming up with all around good stories, full of plot twists and turns, and realistic characters. My original fiction is usually accredited to being "good enough to be published" and I am currently in the process of getting a literary agent. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
~grammatical errors such as fragments or run-ons will usually get ignored. Mainly becasue I do it a lot myself for emphasis.
~I'm not so good at third person. I drift more because it tends to bore me a bit.
~I have been known to get wrapped up in what I'm reading and miss something. But give me some credit, so do professional editors XD!
~In my own writing, I tend to get wrapped up in my little world, and I will occasionally forget to explain things to the people.
~I'm a bit of a control freak. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
~Happy ends. Love 'em :D!
~I like plots, things that leave me itching to know how it ends are wonderful!
~I would like ratings T and up. Otherwise, things tend to bore me, which leads to me messing up (unless it's a fluffly little drabble)
~I would prefer to beta the series I specially selected. I know those characters best, so it'll be easier for me. If it's a book, ask. I'll probably just not think of it :3. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
~OCs. I'm sorry. I don't CARE how well thought out your own character is, it's hard for me to empathise, even if it's not a Mary-Sue.
~Angst. I can't take them. Seriously. They either make me crack up or puke.
~Characters not in character. Leave them mostly as they are.
~One night stands, rape (falls under angst), friends with benifits, and cheating stories. I don't like 'em. |
