Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a newbie to beta-reading, but I have beta-read my friends work for years. As a writer myself and a reviewer for friends, I discovered that my preferred style of reviewing is to be honest and critical, but to offer support and suggestions alongside. I have found that while this criticism is easier to give than to take, it leads to the best overall work in the end. Anyone wishing for my help ought to know that I am going to be honest, but I will speak the truth in love, and I am only trying to make their work the best it can be. I am willing to discuss points, I am not a take-it-or-leave it kind of reader. I work WITH the writer. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Descriptions are a strength of mine, but I also tend toward the flowery style. Character descriptions are more enjoyable, but scenery is also fun. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Through many failed attempts at creating a non-mary-sue female lead, I have discovered that I am quite good at picking them out in other people's stories. Whether I can keep them out of my own is another story.... |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like love stories, but I am very picky about them. I like to have them be realistic and not fairy-tale, I-married-him-after-knowing-him-for-one-day, love-at-first-sight types of tales. Anyone who has seen the movie Enchanted knows what I'm talking about. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Anime. Violence. ANGST. |
