Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm no stranger to fanfiction, and though I haven't been writing as long as I have been reading I feel I write just fine for my experience. Anywhoo, some of the things I particularly look for and prompt writers to make changes to is flow and general organization. No one likes a story that's extremely hard to follow, and it's always easier on the reader when it flows. In general, grammar and spelling as well as typos. Since I prefer to beta for fandoms I know a significant amount about, I like to make sure the characters are believable and don't stray so far from the mold as to completely loose the essence of the original. I also like to cross check things, make sure that the information and background stories include actual theory from the series' universe.
My expectations of those who wish to acquire my services are very simple and to the point. I require understanding, I do have a life outside of fanfiction [believe it or not] and sometimes I don't have time at that moment to edit a chapter. Please consider that my ideals on fanfiction may differ from yours, but I'll try to bring an unbiased points to the table, regardless of what my personal opinion is. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths would probably include spelling and typos, though I'm not always perfect I do tend to read at least three times through a piece and run spell check a few times to root out any mistakes. That, and I can represent a reader who is easily confused by unorganized scenes. So I can comment and suggest changes that would make it easier to read. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm new to the beta-reader/writer game, so once in a while I may need a prompt from the author, that and I do procrastinate from time to time [schedule, schedule, schedule. Courses keep it full]. I also tend to stay within my comfort zone when it comes to beta-ing for different fandoms. Unless I've watched or read the series/movies/novels or at least done some research on it I don't feel as if I really know what I'm talking about. So I prefer to stick with subjects I know well. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
It really doesn't matter to me on the rating, although I do support graphic lemons remaining off of FF.net. I'm not against editing them, though. I'll beta any fiction for Naruto, FullMetal Alchemist, Sousei No Aquarion, Fruits Basket and StarWars. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Any series/movie/tv show/novel fanfiction that I have not read/researched/watched myself. That, and cross overs. |
