Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been doing beta work for a while now, although unofficially, and I generally know what I am doing when it comes to writing. I usually beta for fanfiction, but only because I can be such a canon Nazi. I can completely fix any mistakes you may have with spelling, grammar and syntax. I can even rewrite your story if you like while keeping all of the themes and motifs you originally expressed and the same sequence of events. I do not often do so, but I can.
I generally take a few days to do my work. I read over your story and then I set to fixing all spelling errors. After which, I begin on the grammar. I'll fix up your syntax here and there, reread to make sure I didn't miss anything and then write up a review for you to be sent back with the chapter document. The review is just between you and me and it will contain a short commentary on your work, a few suggestions for any of your future writing endeavors and my score on your work (the original version you sent me) using the Mediaminer standard scoring template. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar, spelling, syntax, characterization, plot and POV are my specialties. If you want a believable story with strong archetypes, I am your man. My opinion of your work in my review will be very direct and straightforward. I will not sugarcoat my words, nor will I go out of my way to criticize your work. I will state how I see your strengths and weakness and how you might compensate. I will never lead you on. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I take a while to do my thing and I have a tendency to occasionally miss a thing or two. I tend to be a bit harsh in my criticism. I also have a very unique syntax style so, I may reflect it a little bit in my edits. Nothing too substantial, but you may not agree with the structure. Feel free to revert some parts. It's your story, after all. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Generally the Naruto fandom is the one I am most familiar with but I know a little bit about most every popular canon. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Poetry, anything from the "hurt/comfort" section (with the exception of S&M ;) and nothing too sappy. I might end up cutting out something you wanted to keep or changing the mood entirely. I generally don't do beta work for a particular story more than once or twice. I am not really a "beta buddy" so my preference is often for One-Shots. That doesn't mean that I am unwilling to do continuous beta work for a particular author or story. It only means that if I am to help you with a many or all chapters of a particular story you wrote, it would have to be something I find interesting as well. If you are a beginning writer, no problem. As long as I see the potential there, I'll help you. You need only the desire to do better and accept new ideas and I will help you.
I'm also not particularly partial to Yaoi and Yuri, although I will do them if I like your story. Other than that, I'm all good. |
