Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am always one hundred percent honest with the people for whom I profread, but I am not a harsh critic by nature and try as hard as possible to provide a kind critique. Sometimes it's hard to be both brutally honest and still manage to make the writer feel good about their work, but I do the best I can. I can be nitpicky and a stickler for detail, but rest assured, that doesn't mean you're a bad writer. It simply means every little flaw in your writing is in good hands. Plot is not my strong point, and though I can spot big plotholes and come up with the odd idea for how to progress a story, if plot is your weakest area, I may not be the beta-reader for you. Nonetheless, I really love to read pretty much whatever you can throw at me, and I look forward to working with you. PM me if you're interested in my services. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
One of my biggest strengths in writing is spelling/grammar. I'm very good at spotting spelling errors, grammatical imperfections, or lackluster wording, and will help you correct any of these kinds of problems. Another one of my areas of expertise is realistic dialouge and characterization--or, how to assure that the characters actually sound and act like themselves. I am also a firm believer in the power of research when writing a story, so if there's something in your fanfiction that doesn't correspond with the previously-established canon, I'll let you know, unless you specify otherwise. Finally, as previously stated, I am always a healthy balance between honest and couteous when I beta-read, so you needn't be afraid of my being too critical or too lax. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Again, if plot is what you need help with, I'm not really your girl. I've never really felt comfortable with telling anyone which direction they should take their story--it just doesn't seem like any of my business to take the reins when it comes to plot. I am also not totally efficient; though I truly do want more than anything to read what you've sent me and give my opinion, I can sometimes have trouble getting on the computer for long stretches of time. I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible, but it may be difficult. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
The genres for which I will beta--that is, the fandoms I with which am most comfortable--are as follows: Naruto, Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Harry Potter. I will beta for literally any genre--romance, comedy, adventure, etc.--or any pairing, including yaoi, yuri, or even bondage, with one exception. (See below.) I also love OC stories, so send those to me if you're writing one! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Absolutely NO mpreg. I refuse to beta for anything containing mpreg, crackfic or not. It's not something I can take seriously enough to read through. |
