Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi my name is Andy. I've been a user of this site for a good while now (over three years in fact). As a beta-reader I prefer anyone who requires assistance to contact me first as I prefer to only have a few stories requiring my attention at a time. If I do get to help you then I would initially want you to send/email me the chapter you have written so I can read it and make necessary corrections. I will also annotate on what corrections I have made and give advice and how to avoid it (especially if it is a common problem). That said, if the chapter is written entirely in "text speak" I will refuse to beta it until you change it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and punctuation: I'm a stickler for correcting grammar and punctuation when I review other people's work. Vocabulary; I have an extensive vocabulary and will often recommend words or phrases to shorten/reduce unnecessary clutter in a chapter. Spelling; As I mentioned, I have an extensive vocabulary and I know how to correctly spell 95% of the words I use. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Availability; Because I have a job and active social life I am not available seven days a week. Even on days I have "free" I have to be quite conservative about how much time I can dedicate to beta-reading. Accuracy; Whilst I am very good at spotting errors and making corrections, I am not infallible. Errors will occur from time to time. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer "Romance" fictions over most other sorts, but I will read whatever is asked of me to beta. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories that are "pure angst" from start to finish drive me insane. |
