Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will do beta reading pretty much for any book, movie, or TV show that I like-but to be more specific, things like:
-Van Helsing
-Underworld/Underworld: Evolution
-Pirates of the Caribbean
-Sleepy Hollow
-Harry Potter
-Angel
-Blood and Chocolate
-Phantom of the Opera
-Heroes
And those other movies, books, and TV shows I like(see my profile for more details about those).
I will read pretty much any genre, any rating, and any pairing...well, most any pairing. I do have my qualms, people. See below for what I most likely won't/absolutely will not read.
And I will give you honest feedback and criticism. Don't like honest criticism? Don't ask me to beta! It's really that simple! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
-I have a good eye for grammer, so I can help you improve your grammer.
-I'm REALLY good at action/battle scenes.
-I have a pretty decent vocabulary range and can give you some good words to use.
-I'm good with detail, descriptions, and characterization. Remember, it's not bad to use details! You just have to know how much to use.
-Two words: Plot. Twists. I'm good at plot twists and cliffhangers if you wish to work on those...
-Minor, random bits of funniness. Just a few lines here and there to make the reader smile. I'm not bad at those
-If songfics are your thing, I'm good at those, too. And I usually know the right song to weave in... |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
-Don't come to me about spelling. That you might need to talk to your spellcheck about.
-If it's romance(and I don't mean kissing romance, I mean full-blown love scenes romance), I'm not much help. I can help to some extent, but I'm really not the person to ask when things get steamy.
-If you're looking for a yaoi/yuri beta, I wouldn't ask me. I have yet to figure those out...and I'm still a little uncomfortable with writing those...
-That should be about it. I'll let you know if I can think of anything else. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm pretty much open to anything, as I said before, but there are a few things I'm quite fond of...
-Van Helsing/Anna stories(I have a bit of a love/hate thing when it comes to Anna)
-Van Helsing/OC stories
-Any Van Helsing story will do, though...
-Sequel-type stories to movies that perhaps have no sequel. I like to see what other people think will happen next! Of course, you can also do stories for movies that do have sequels...
-Stories about Van Helsing's past. I like to see what others think happened to him before he was found at the Vatican.
-Stories with a strong female lead character. I like it when the girls stand up for themselves!

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
-I really won't beta most yaoi/yuri stories, mainly because I'm not good at it, and I don't know what to look for...
-I WILL NOT beta any stories where Van Helsing is paired with a man! Especialy Drabriel! I stand strong in my belief that Van Helsing is a heterosexual man.
-Please make sure your story has somewhat of a plot and it's not just a bunch of mindless crap you threw together when you were bored in math class.
-I won't beta for stories with excessive amounts of chatspeak. It's unprofessional and drives me crazy.
-I don't mind if there are love scenes in your story, but if I think your story is one big love scene, or it gets too graphic for my tastes, I will more than likely stop reading it. |
