Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I like to help... that's basically it. I'll encourage, make suggestions and help to at least make the story readable. I'm not bossy and abhor the idea of anyone telling me what to do with my stories so I'll be there mainly to assist with grammar and spelling as well as providing ideas for writers block. I don't use a beta at all myself so my stories are an example of what I can do. I do get quite busy at times and this may affect my ability to finish a story in a timely manner. I'll be able to discus this with anyone wanting to enlist my services at the time when they enquire and we'll work a time frame out. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Most grammar (I love commas), spelling (You can't hold the fact I'm Australian against me...I can do British and American too. All work will be beta-read in the version of English the fandom is set in.), characterization and humour. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Punctuation of speech, angst, violence and cutting unnecessary scenes I've become attached to. I'm also bound to tell you the plot's fine no matter what because who am I to tell you what story to write. *is spineless* Also I LOVE writing in fragments (I just think it flows more like real thought/speech that way) so I probably won't object when you use them. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance and comedy. Slash, het, gen... it's all good. I'm good for all rating levels and mostly go by a flexible YKINMKBYKIOK policy... if unsure check out the "Not My Cup Of Tea" section. Even if I don't ship a pairing I'm willing to beta for it. If you don't see a category/fandom in my list, ask, there may be a chance I know it anyway. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Incest (although if done as part of a threesome/moresome I'm willing to negotiate), non-con (dub-con by discussion), extreme gore, extreme angst, pedophilia (and I don't mean 18-yr old student/23-yr old teacher. I'm talking under 16 and over 20. And I prefer my both-underage fics innocent.), extreme blood-play, bestiality and sex involving bodily fluids/solids that are not generally exchanged. I'm not hugely comfortable with OCs unless they are very background and definitely not a love interest. |
