Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a grammar freak with commas as a pet peeve. I tend to comment all over the place and compliment excessively when I see something I like. I try to be a nice person, but I'm not afraid to make suggestions or corrections. I'd rather you read over your work at least once before sending it to me to check for typos and whatnot. I'll correct them if I find them, but please do try and catch them before sending your work to me! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an innate sense of good grammar, and an ear for a good story. I can find good and flat characters and I do my best to give you tips on how to improve the latter. I also tend to point out parts in the story that don't fit, or sentences that I don't think flow properly. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Okay, I'll admit it: I do tend to get slightly carried away. I like to start big huge epics and never finish them. Granted, that's more of a weakness for a writer than for a beta, but it's something to keep in mind if you want to ask me for suggestions for plot and whatnot. Also, I am TERRIBLE at passive voice. I use it ALL the time, and so I won't be able to spot it if you ask me to. I'll do my best, but I tend not to notice it. Oh, and one last thing: I tend to get bored with longer fics. Oneshots are great, and stories up to about 5 chapters I can deal with, but anything longer and I'm afraid I lose interest. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Harry Potter slash please! I don't care which pairing, but that's what I prefer. I'll also read Twilight fics, and His Dark Materials fics, but Harry Potter is the fandom I'm most familiar with, so I'll be more useful with that one. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Gushy romance or smut. Sorry guys, but that's not what I do. I don't mind some romance, but there has to be some plot and fun characters to go along with it. Also, please no fandoms that I haven't written for or expressly say I like (like HDM). I haven't written them for a reason, and I'd rather not Beta a story for a fandom I know nothing about. |
