Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love picking stories apart. That's what I do. If you want a thorough beta'ing of your story - and that means searching for plotholes, OOCness, typos, grammar mistakes, awkward phrases and, if you have OCs/an OC in your story, Mary Sues - then go ahead and ask me to beta your story. But it is required that you can take harsh criticism if you'll do so. I'm blunt and I don't hesitate to tell you exactly how it is. However, I'm not intending to put you down or bash you as a person; my goal is to make your fanfiction a better story and to make you become a better writer. And to achieve that I tell the truth. I don't intend to force you to listen to my every word, of course, and you're free to argue if you believe my point is invalid. Intelligent arguments, please. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
One of my strongest points is dialogue. I know how to make it flow and I know the speech patterns of the characters.
Hunting down Mary Sues or just bad OCs is something I do pretty much daily.
Finding awkward phrasings, and incorrect sentence structure - which is sort of the same thing.
Endings and beginnings of multi-chapter fics (where it's best that the chapters end, for example, although personal preference plays a part here, too).
Thoughts and feelings.
Right amount of dialogue and description (sometimes you really don't need to describe very much, but everyone's style differs so some people just do. As long as it's not repetetive it's totally okay)
I do believe I know enough about punctuation as well.
Swedish is my mother language. If you have Swedish in your story, for whatever reasons, which I have seen, then I can definitely help with that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
English isn't my first language. I may not be the best at grammar and spelling errors, but I do believe I know enough and I'll do my very best. If I'm incorrect, tell me. Helps me learn, too.
I'm not an expert on where to split up paragraphs, but again, I'll do my best.
If you want tips on how to end your story, I may not be the best choice. Endings usually give ME trouble too. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can beta anything (aside from what I'll put down there) in these categories: D.Gray-Man, FullMetal Alchemist, Pandora Hearts, Black Lagoon, Naruto and Harry Potter (although I'm not sure of my skills when it comes to the HP universe, to be honest. I don't read much fanfiction of it, at all). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not, under any circumstances, beta Yullen/AreKan (as in, a romantic relationship. Friendship I can handle). I cannot stand that pairing, it just doesn't make sense to me, and therefore beta'ing it is out of question. But other than that, I can do anything and any pairing (yaoi, yuri, het, anything). Or, well, there are the student/teachers pairings like BookmanxLavi, TiedollxKanda... That kind of thing is also not cool. And I don't think I can do poetry. I'm not okay with stories that bash a character. |
