Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Yo, homie-g. I'm Dark.
I beta-read brutally and in a straight-forward manner, which I've developed due to my experience as copy editor (for those who don't know yearbook terms, "copy" is the writing on the page) on my high school's yearbook staff. Thus, if the fic is terrible, I'll tell you. Sure, I'll be a little gentle if it really is that bad. I'll give you my advice, my edits... but if you don't use them, it won't hurt my feelings. As a side note, I don't appreciate writers who flaunt that they THINK they're the best. Think it all you want, just don't tell me. I have a low tolerance for irritating people. Don't be irritating and we'll get along great. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I write well in horror/romance, adventure, friendship, and hurt/comfort. Also, thanks to yearbook-training, I have a range of proofreading skills and will be more than happy to use them to help you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm often lazy, so I don't edit what I write. However, I will edit other people's works. What's the sense in that? I don't quite know. As well, my time is very limited due to my insane (senior year of high school) schedule. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Totally loves: If you're going to go with a hurt/comfort, MAKE ME CRY, DANG IT! I love stories that make me cry... I also love ACTION-PACKED fics. Make me FEEL it.
Tolerates: I will tolerate the occasional lemon (if it's well written). I will also tolerate awkward couples every once in a while. I don't mind swearing, either. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I DESPISE: If you blow up a character's personality completely (unless it's humor), I won't read it. DON'T BOTHER! I absolutely HATE pointless lemons as well. If you have a lemon, the characters had better have a good reason for it (unless it's rape. Then, its technically not a good reason). |
