Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've always been an avid writer, and I thoroughly enjoy reading other writers' works. When reading or editing someone's work, I always tend to focus on the more literal, logical aspects first (grammar, characterization, etc.), while keeping the more emotional attributes of the story for last. After all, each writer is different; we all see things in different shades, and there is no such thing as a 'correct' way to write. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I've always been fascinated with the art of the written word, I've taken Honors courses in the subject; if you need any help with grammar or characterization, I'll be more than willing to lend you a helping hand. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes, I tend to be a little too liberal, or rather, too emotional or psychological with my stories; this can sometimes tend to show in my reading of another person's work. I might ask for more characterization than anything else. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Oh, I love a good drama; romance is very nice, too. Though I've never been a gargantuan fan of the action/adventure genres, I'll still be more than happy to delve into them if you need any advice or help! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'll read any story; however, if the story is haphazard and poorly constructed (i.e. someone who just doesn't care), expect criticism and a sharp tongue. I hate to say it, but I'm a Grammar Nazi. Misspelled words send my skin crawling (I know, shame on me!). But in terms of the best way of writing a story, I'm very open-minded - I'll try to be as honest as possible. |
