Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Beta-reading... Okay; if I am to beta I need to know the Plot - so I know where things are heading and I can find my footing frist. Seriously: plot outline/descriptions are nessacary.
Now... betareading style... well I think I'd probably do the old bold/highlight technique, or write in a different font. I'd also send a reply with notes/observations along with it. But it would be useful if you told me exactly what you want my opinions on... I think this is where you look at my strengths and go "Oh; that's good, I need help with that" |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Description. I am good at description. I'm also apt at making sentences flow and reducing awkward phrasing or the over-use of words. I like doing characterisation work and can help with backround to plots and working out plots themselves: for instance, if you have a clear start for a story and matbe a few of the major events, I might be a help when it comes to connecting the dots and bringing the whole thing together. I'm also fine with spelling. I notice little common gliches that people tend to brush over without noticing... so yeah. I'm good at fluctuating between writing styles and have a wide (and occasionaly unique) colourful vocabulary. There you go; my self-proclaimed expertise. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Um... some advanced grammer rules (I'm just grasping the fact that it shouldn't have been "To boldly go where no man has gone before" but "to go boldly where no man has gone before"): but i'm going to read a little book called "Eats, shoots, and leaves" that should clear up any hiccups... let's see... oh yeah; i'm not the best at the old yaoi/yuri... I do read it every now and again... but really, I'm pretty sure I can't write it for the life of me. Oh yeah... lemons. I've never written any, so that mightn't be the best either. Hmmm; oh yeah! I'm from ireland (and yes my first language IS english) so my spelling isn't american. It's UK/ROI deffinitions all the way. But I know all about asphalts(not pavements) and cookies(not biscuits) and foscets(not taps)... so that's fine. But spellings May differ (though they'd still be correct over here)
Oh and I'm in school doing an exam year so I'm taking only one or two stories on at a time. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I've written Kingdom Hearts; but I prefer AU most of the time. Bleach is a new love of mine so that'd be fun (haven't read any fanfics of this catogory before). I might just read some Twilight fics if I'm in the right mood... oh, and Skins. Hmm Peter Pan and Alice's adventures in wonderland/Alice through the looking glass are interesting too. I have actually written Peter Pan fanfiction before... but that was before I knew about this site and it was handwritten (but I can't find the copy so I can't type it up)... I'm good at:
Angst (not too OTT, and not for no reason. "Because I'm Emo" is no excuse...but I can come up with something to cause it, if you need help, so that's all good)
Romance (I love it. As long as I like the pairing... but I'm up for anything from fluff to relationship development to heartbreak. And I'm good at it too), Humour (Comedy, laughter, weird comebacks, anything that is actually funny.I'm good at humourous dialougesin particular)
Drama (Great. Conflict is key; plots need drama to expand and develop. And I've gone to drama classes for ten years so I consider myself as having a good knowledge of the subject. Oh; and I've lived through my own personal dramas too which, although they were regretable and painful, help me as a writer and now as a betareader)
General (as long as it's presented with something else, not pure randomness)
I have no preference at wrting styles and am well experiecned when it comes to a variaty of them. POV to third person to Infinity and beyond... I can cover them
Oh and I'm completely fine with Swearing, Drinking, and Drugs: I swear (a little to much probabley) and Ireland has something like the highest under-age drinking rate in europe, so even though I DON'T drink, I know way too many people who do: so, as a result, I know how to write about it. Drugs? well unfortunately I know people on drugs. No one I'm actually friends with. But I know people who are. And I'm well informed about them. So I think I'm okay at writing about characters under their effects too (if anyone needs help with this; I mean writing about their effects. Not help with an adiction LoL I'm not a helplin in that respect) |

Hmmm... well... I can't do yuri/yaoi... or rape (i think... never tried it; but then again, I don't particularly want to),lemons might not work out so well either... um; some pairings I can't stand so you'd have to tell me in advance who the couple is before so I'd be able to see whether or not I'd be willing to work with them in a story. Oh; Mary-Sues... I mean general cliches that are completely two-dimensional. I can help people get over this; but you'll have to able to try and work on it. Seriously. Um... I don't like Other/OC pairings. I'm fine with the occasional OC wondering around (heck; in my stories most of the parental figures are OCs) but having them centre stage is not something I do. |
