Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a busy student, so I don't have ALL the time in the world, but when I commit to a fic, I stick with it, and I'll MAKE time for it. :) I'm not overly critical about fanfiction -- for example, if you ask me to help with simply spelling and grammatical errors, I won't bother myself eviscerating your plot line ;) -- but if you ask my opinion, I'll give it to you. I'm honest, but never mean (if something I comment on bothers you in some way, please let me know; I truly do not intend to offend). If you ask me to beta, I'll always come through; though, I must warn again: I am a VERY busy student!
I use a particular format for beta work, but I'm pretty flexible. Generally, I work in Microsoft Word and will insert my comments or suggestions throughout the work in a different-colored and bolded font, then leave a more detailed commentary at the very end. I like my format and style and will use it by default, but if you have a different way of doing things, I'm fine with switching things up! :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am best at spelling and grammar. I am big on attention to detail (such as missing words, or words that don't make sense in a certain context). I can also help with imagery and diction choices if you're stuck or lacking inspiration! :) I'm also pretty good at keeping characters IN character, so if you find you're having an issue making your character believable and genuine (and true to the original, if not an OC), I can help out with that too. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am not the greatest with dialogue or plot devices (hence why most of my fics are one-shots), so if your trouble is coming up with original lines or a new scenario, I'm afraid I can't help you there. However, if you're wondering whether a certain line or a certain scene DOES work for an audience, I'm good with that. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to read one-shots or short-chaptered fics. I probably don't have the time/patience to commit to stories with more than five chapters. Sorry! I mean no disrespect; I'm simply trying to be practical in this way. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Please see "preferred": I most likely will not have time to read any stories longer than five chapters. Sorry! Also, I prefer not to read gratuitous, explicitly sexual, violent, or somehow graphic scenes -- anything rated above T (or PG-13) I generally do not care for. However, if it is rated M (or R) for swear words or offensive language (with only a little bit of sex or violence), I don't mind so much, and I'll probably beta it. :) In a nutshell... so long as it's not all excessive sex and gore, we're good! |
