Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
About Me: I've been an undocumented beta reader for a while on Writer's Anonymous, and have been waiting to publish a fifth story so I could become a beta. I can do one-shots and chapters, but I can only do one chapter at a time.
My style: I first read through the chapter, just as if I were reading it online. Then I go back and re-read it again, and this time look for mistakes. I'm a pretty fast reader, so I should be able to get back to you quickly, but I am also rather paranoid of leaving something out, so I'll re-read it several times before giving it back. I'm honest, but I'll try not to be a beta that criticizes everything. I'll also tell you what parts I like. Using lots of exclamation points.
My stats: Expect me to get back to you in a few days. If I don't, I am either sick, bogged down with homework and/or my own writing, or I have been deprived of my computer. Don't expect me to only read it halfway - I will read it again. And then again. And then two or three times more, to make sure I didn't miss anything. And then once more, just for fun. And then again to make sure I run out my computer battery... |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm one of those people who sees spelling mistakes and grammar problems everywhere. I can advise on plot points, plot holes, and plot ideas, and I can do descriptions very well. I'm a stickler for canon, so I can help you with that if I know the fandom, but I can do AUs. I'm also very open about pairings (within reason). I'm a funny person and love Humor and Parody, but I can go with the darkest of dark poetry, if you give it to me. I can do spelling and grammar with anything, even Anime/Manga, but, no, I can't speak Japanese for you. I can do short German interjections and sentences.
A NOTE: I can do way more than the five or so listed categories. My hand got tired after I got into the G section of the books, so I just chucked the whole thing and clicked All Books. PM me if you want to know what books I've read. I've read a lot, mostly fantasy, but some sci-fi and |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Staying in character is my biggest weakness. Also, I may not get back to you as quickly as I'd like, as I have a rather slow computer and several stories in limbo that I am working on. Also, I am so-so with Doc X; however, I am going to try to get lessons. I do know the basics, though, so I can guide you through the sending-it-to-me part. Oh, and I can't do Anime/Manga. I have no idea what is going on in AnimeMangaLand, so I can't help you with plot points there. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like Romances, Mysteries and Crime, Humor/Parody, Hurt/Comfort, and Drama, but I can do basically anything. You give it to me, and I'll read it, and I'll beta it. I'd prefer something in one of the fandoms I like, but I can do spelling and grammar for any fandom you give me. Just don't expect me to do canon things for a fandom I don't know. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Eh, I'm not a Yaoi/Manslash person. Yuri I can do. Yaoi is... just not my cup of tea. And don't send me something like Snape/The Giant Squid. I can understand *people*... but a Death Eater and a mollusk? No. Incest is also a big no-no. Also, yes, I do spelling mistakes and grammar, but I'm not re-writing the story for you. If it is in chatspeak, or has an endless string of bad spelling, it's going to be a little harder for me to beta it (e.i. don't send me atrocious writing). And no Anime/Manga please. I haven't read any manga, I haven't seen any anime... sorry. |
