Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a romantic and would love to help other people write really good romance novels or short stories. I decided to become a betareader when i was going through a fanfic and found myself irritated with how many grammar mistakes there were in such an amazing story. I also decided to become one when i was reading a story that had a good foundation, it just seemed a little too much like a summary and did not possess enough dept and detail in the story. I hope to help other readers reach their expectations and help get more awesome fanfics out there. I hope to help readers create stories that get hundreds of reviews and that other fans of the series will enjoy. I try to be fairly nice and politically correct when betareading. I don't like flames and believe in constructive criticism, but not in bashing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I pride myself on knowing where the commas go since my class just spent about ten weeks on them in English. I'm also fairly good at spotting other grammar mistakes -although i do occasionally make a few of my own-. I also believe I can tell fairly well when the story is going too fast and the characters are a little too okay with things out of the ordinary. Unless the author confides in me otherwise, i would like to keep characters real. |

My weaknesses include sap. I'm sorry, but i luv the mushy stuff and though i believe i can spot it when it comes extremely overboard, i can't always tell when there's just slightly or mediumly too much of it. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would love to betaread stories about friendship, romance, drama, and angst. I would like to betaread stories that are planning on being longer than 15,000 to 20,000 words. I also prefer to read angst romance stories where the girl is doubting her looks and self-confidence while the guy secretly thinks she's gorgeous -or at least attractive, whichever-. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories rated 'M' for VERY explicit sex scenes, I would still be willing to betaread M stories with minor sex scenes because i know that there are many very good ones out there, but i would not like to beta read a story that is explicitly sex, although there may be sex scenes in it. Also stories that hold many descriptive torture scenes. I would also appreciate betareading a story that the author is planning on being at least 10,000 words. They don't have to be, but I think there's more room to work with. Also I don't want to betaread stories about incest -or twincest- or with characters on a show that have a parent-child relationship. I would also not want to betaread stories with guy/guy intimate relationships (i can pretty much handle girl/girl, but i'm still coming around to the guy/guy stuff) -sorry-. |
