Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I started writing when I was 8 or 9, having found this site (ff.net) early from its inception. I took a hiatus for almost two years, and have recently started writing again. In the small stint that I have returned, I have had the pleasant surprise of quite a few people telling me how much my stories have influenced them, and how glad they are that I am writing again. Although my opinion of my old writing is not particularly high, I cannot help but appreciate the fact that it has made a difference in some peoples' lives. And I want to continue doing that through editing as well.
I tend to beta-read like an assault rifle. I take each paragraph and write my commentary on it if I feel needed, comb through the entire piece, and THEN go back and read the story as a whole. After that I add my comments at the end. I don't delete anything from the original, not even to correct a mechanical mistake. I like talking on IM, (AIM or MSN or GoogleTalk) but e-mail works well too.
If you give me a time frame to get back to you in, I can probably do it. Otherwise expect a wait of 1-2 weeks. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can probably spot any mechanical error you make. If your story is unrealistic and out-of-character, I can notice that easily. I'm good at offering alternative versions of sentences. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am less good at pinpointing exactly what seems so awkward about a certain paragraph, or why a chapter throws me off in a certain way. I probably won't spot any incongruent details with the canon (i.e. the specifics of making a Pactio in Negima) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Dramatic or character-based stories tickle me more than action/adventure types. I'm only listed for 2 fandoms, but I'm willing to read others as well, I just won't be able to give as good a review as I like. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nah. |
