Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm currently in my second year of a English Literature and Language combined A-level, along with other academic studies. I'm writing pretty much all the time, and like to think I might be good at it. When I read through fanfictions I'm constantly correcting the mistakes in my head. It's a habbit of mine, and can get rather annoying, so I thought I'd put it into beta reading.
I'd prefer it you would check through a story before sending it to me so I've not got a draft that's too rough and full of basic mistakes. I will ALWAYS give positive feedback, along with the critisism. I'll try to be as nice as possible, but try not to be offended if I don't like something. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am rather good at capturing the emotions of the characters, through thought and description, and telling if they're in character or not. I can be rather thorough in the checking, and will tell you if any grammar or spelling mistakes - though the latter I have to check several times - have been used. I can also help if something's too melodramatic or influent. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
It's a very good job Word has a spell checker because my spelling can, at times, be atrocious. I also have a nack for rambling, or missing things in the plot of a story. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance and fluff, as well as angst and hurt/comfort are the ones I really enjoy reading, beta-ing and writing. Doctor Who is also my main fandom at the moment, so I'd prefer things from there. Preferably Rose/Doctor interaction/romance, though I can beta other pairings if need be. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash isn't at all a speciality of mine, and although I don't mind reading it as a back story, I don't read or like to beta for it too much. And although I like to read the occational smut, I can't write or beta it too good - or at all. |
