Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am straightforward and honest; I tend to ere on the positive side.
I like to let the author breathe, I do not smother, and I prefer to know what you think of any ideas or changes I may have.
It is your story, and I am here to help, not write it for you.
I do not like being handed things at the last minute, but if the need arises, I work quickly and with a good attitude.
I can work verbally, using a microphone or the files can be sent to me and I will go over them.
I am inconsistent, sometimes working from dawn until dusk one day and doing nothing the next, but if you have a deadline I WILL meet it.
Whatever I do it is always easily understandable and organized, I use highlights and different colours of text to make my changes and the original text easily distinguishable.
I am Canadian so sometimes word spellings may conflict if you are American. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very obsessive with detail and have extensive experience with Victorian speech and the Sherlock Holmes stories; I can convert language easily and instantly.
I am a hard worker and am able to put myself in the place of any character no matter their age or the time in which they exist.
I have an extensive vocabulary and a knack for description.
If there is anything I find I am not able to correct as I go, I am more than willing to acquire the knowledge by my own means.
I am a home schooler and have odd time constraints, but this also means I am able to make time to match any given deadline as long as it’s not crunch season (which lasts for two months maximum but I can never tell when it will be, during those two months I am able to meet deadlines, but not I will need advance warning.)
I have written novels, but I my background is in poetry, both rhyming and not. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My grammar is weak, but anything I don't know I will learn when the need arises.
My mother is a professional editor and I am able to learn whatever I need to from her. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer Sherlock Holmes stories, but I will do anything with a good plot and strong writing that I can take pride in helping with. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not read anything to do with the television show ‘House’.
As for other dislikes, well, I won’t know unless I read them now will I? |
