Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love a good story, but feel that improper punctuation, incorrect spelling, and bad grammar make it hard to wade through to get to the good stuff. I love to help others get their creative on, especially new writers! I respect other author's ideas, but I also believe if you're going to ask for my help, you should respect mine as well. I beta for several prolific writers and do have a family as well, so sometimes it may take me a bit to get to you, but I promise timely turnaround unless I have an emergency or computer problems. There are only four things I ask of my writers when I beta for them:
1. Mention me on your chapters as your beta so others can see how I work and contact me to beta for them if they like my beta skills. It’s also common fan fiction writer courtesy.
2. Forgive me when I miss something which does occasionally happen and be willing and able to do a chapter replacement to fix it. That also applies to when you decide to change something after I’ve sent it back to you. Please let me go over it again if you do change or add anything so when you post that chapter and site me as your beta, I’ve had a chance to fix anything that needs it and am proud to have you mention me as having beta'd it.
3. Sometimes I will make suggestions of things to add to your story, or recommend something be moved or removed to help with story flow or to make your story better. Feel free to ask if you have questions as to my reasoning for doing anything. You are under no obligation to accept my suggestions or recommendations, nor will I be offended if you decide not to use them , but please be respectful in your declinations.
4. When I give you my time doing a beta for you, respect my efforts and recognize that though my time is given willingly, it is valuable. If you ask me to work on something, for you to turn around and say you can’t be bothered to repost the work you asked me to do is wasting my time. |

My strengths are spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. I'm also good at brainstorming, so if you're stuck or in a writer's slump, I'm willing to get on the phone with you and talk it out until you can move forward with your story. |

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Really gruesome, dark, or demonic types of things. They scare me. Also, I don't care for gratuitously graphic or lewdly explicit sexual language. I think it's an art form to create erotic scenes without labeling each body part using slang terminology or vulgar discriptions. |
