Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm pretty easygoing when it comes to betareading, so I'll beta just about anything as long as I like it. (And I like a lot of pairings, genres, and styles, so it probably won't be often you'll be turned down - more like once in a blue moon.) I've beta-ed one person before (and still am) by their new name of YouBurnedMyFuckinEyes. I was also supposed to betaread for Afleet, but she never contacted me after the first PM. Anyway, my favorite things in writing are steampunk, cyberpunk, gaslamp fantasy, gakuen AU (only if written well and not cliche, though), Victorian-age AU, canonverse AU (if that makes any sense), developed characters, action, deep plot, and so on so forth. When it comes to writers, specifically, I like when they have a relative amount of punctuality, at least a fair writing style, respect, and not necessarily friendliness, but that is a bonus. Anything I edit/suggest are just that - suggestions. I color code my changes and highlight places where I think need improvement, but you don't have to follow my word. So as long as there's no fighting, we should get along fine. C: |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As a Grammar and Spelling Nazi, my largest strength would, obviously, be grammar and spelling. They're my first two loves after my waifu, so I treat them dearly and get daily lovingly abused by my family because of my OCD-ness. Also, I'm pretty much a walking encyclopedia and thesaurus, so if you have a question about something or another or need a synonym or antonym, I'm your girl. As far as foreign languages go, I'm practically fluent in Japanese, French, and German, and semi-fluent in Finnish, Korean, and Russian. If your fic has any of those languages present (but not predominant) and you are not a native-speaker, nor fluent, feel free to ask me. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses as a betareader and a writer would probably be character development and my natural dislike of certain types of necessary characters. I don't have any trouble seeing how a character is at the beginning of a story and how they are at the end of the story, it's just how they become who they are at the end of the story that troubles me. Also, I have great difficulty writing more happy-go-lucky and upbeat characters, as I myself am more of a loner antihero-type persona and dislike loudmouths very much. Also, I'm a sucker for awkward fluff and unusual pairings, if you look at weaknesses in that perspective. ;D |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Well, I prefer the Hetalia, Naruto, Durarara! (anime!verse), Death Note, and Bleach series, as I know the plot, characters, setting, and /everything/ backwards, forwards, and upside down and right side up, but I'm open to Criminal Minds, KHR, FMA, and HP as well. I don't accept any other fandoms/series, because I might end up accidentally screwing over your story. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Hm...I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to just about everything, and being bisexual, I love yaoi, yuri, and het all the same. As an atheist, however, I must say that I cannot and will not betaread any spiritual/religious stories unless the religion is far, far in the background or is an evil cult that the main characters must battle against. (See Prometheus Rising by White Mizerable) Also, excessive rape, streetlife, and drug abuse are things I really can't stomach, so I probably won't do those. Ever. Parodies and play-format just bore me, so please don't ask if that's what you want me to betaread. Other than that, though, I'm pretty much open to anything~ |
