Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a new writer, I understand the anxiety that accompanies putting your work on line. It's petrifying; you're literally offering the world "you" and asking them to accept that.
That said, I really want to help people out by giving them a bit of "world view" before they actually post. I'm pretty laid back, and I'll read just about anything. I can't boast a ton of writing experience, but I do have a lot of reading experience, lol, and I think I'm generic enough to kinda grasp the everyman's feel for a story. For instance, I know most people push the back button after seeing "mpreg." :)
So if you email me anything at bottom.of.the.mug@comcast.net, I will surely get back to you within the day, if not the hour with my thoughts. (I'm just a impatient as anyone around here).
I look forward to reading your stuff. Thanks, Verb |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a knack for observation, which I like to think is important for a beta. Because of this, I'm a good judge of IC or OOC, and a grammar snob. And I think I know what people are attracted to, be it outlandish metaphors or meaningful pauses or insights on characters that nobody ever considered, and I think I can genuinely help with things like that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I think some people may find I lean on the nice side, so I definitely won't flame work or even give a scathing review, and I can see how some writers wouldn't like that. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love House, and I feel like it's the one piece of fiction I really, really "know." |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I think AU is really intriguing...but if I read one more "Chase is actually a girl" fic I may get a concussion from banging my head on the desk. I also really don't "get" AU's where the main characters aren't human...that's just weird. |
