Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
When I beta something I usually read it thrice: the first time to get the overall feel of the piece, the second to correct grammar, story flow and other technicalities, and the third to review what I've edited to check for little errors. Beta readers are not perfect, please understand. But I try my best to reach your expectations. I may be blunt, but please don't take offense. This is not an affront to your ability as a writer. I just believe that honesty is the most helpful tool a writer can use to improve. If a piece is good, I say so. If not, I'll do everything I can to help. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar, characterization... I write about random genres, but my favourites so far are those that touch on romance, horror, friendship, and a little action and philosophy. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Definitely not humour. I'm terribly sorry, but nearly all my attempts at humour turns out sounding sarcastic instead of funny. I'm fine with regards to beta-ing humour, but I won't be able to contribute much funny input. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Any type of story is good. In prose please, not poetry...not even the epic or the narrative kind. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will NOT beta stories with adult content. Violence, and maybe even excessive violence is all right, as long as it is perfectly justified. A little fighting is cool, but not a bloodbath. Also: stories with lots of profanity. |
