Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a spelling nazi, put in the terms of a good friend of mine. I currently beta read for my best friend, which I am happy to do, and would love to help fellow authors and authoresses get started here or help them with their writing. I am on fanfiction every day of the week, either checking my messages, reading, or sometimes staring at my profile for twenty minutes, so if you wish to have me as your beta reader, you will always get a fast response as to whether or not I can help you. Nine times out of ten I will be able to, however.
My style is pretty basic; I read through your work, fix the errors that pop out to me automatically (usually spelling), and then reread it two or three more times to get the other errors, such as grammar. While I admit that I do miss some errors, I will mostly get all errors in your work.
Things you can expect from me when you request my "services." (I find it odd calling them services...)
- You will get your work perfected to the best of my writing ability.
- Nine times out of ten, I will get it back to you in less than a week.
- You are always welcome to poke me about how I am going with your work.
- I put you first; as in, if I am not sure about a change, I will message you with the line or paragraph in question and ask what you meant by it.
In short, if you wish me to be your beta reader, I can guarantee you will get your work beta-ed fast yet done to the best of my ability, and have a friendly communication between myself and you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As stated in my profile, I am a "spelling nazi", as in I spot spelling errors automatically and correct them first. I am also good with formatting, so if your work is one huge paragraph, I can easily format your work into several paragraphs, thus making it more clean and easier to read. If you are unsure about a summary for your work and what warnings you need, you can request me to do a summary and warning for your work.
I know most characters like the back of my hand for the fandoms I will beta for, so OOC-ness will be easy to point out most of the time if that is an issue with you.
Most writers hate Mary Sues, so I can help you avoid that with your original character if you find yourself in that position. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am not good with graphic sex scenes, but I can work with limes (less graphic sex scenes) to an extent. Sometimes I struggle with certain grammar, but I will try my best to get over this obstacle to make sure that your work has as few grammar errors as possible. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer beta reading Yaoi / Shounen-ai, and Yuri / Shoujo-ai, although I won't mind doing Hetero (Straight) Pairings. Anything goes ... except horror. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Horror stories are my main problem. I can't do them at all, and if you give me a horror story, I wouldn't be able to do it because ... horror just isn't my cup of tea. |
