Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love writing, and I love helping people write better. Once upon a time I was an aspiring English teacher, and so I have the knowledge base for checking grammar and syntax, and an eye for creativity and good storytelling. I will constantly tell you to show and not tell, the best advice my writing professors gave me. Don't tell me "he loved her so much;" show me why he did. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am an honest critic, and I want your writing to be as good as it can be. I will always tell you what I think, whether or not you want to hear it. I look for grammar basics, but more importantly for character voice and story development. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not going to help you stop abusing commas; I'm a comma abuser too. I also can't help you develop a long story arc-- there's a reason I write one-shots! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Because my primary focus is asking whether or not your characters are speaking in their 'voice,' that's easiest if I've read/seen the canon, but I'll do my best. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Twilight drives me batty; I think the canon is poorly-written, so I'd really rather not read fan fiction based on novels worse than fifth grade essays. |
