Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm just starting out technically as a Beta on here, but I've been Beta reading unofficially for a few friends of mine for over a year now. I absolutely love helping others with their writing. I love to just hear out someones idea, help them brainstorm it, help them outline it (that is, where they want to take the story from point A to point B), and then I like to just listen to what they've got before I add my two cents. Sometimes we all need someone to bounce ideas off of. I am also a huge advocate of making sure you keep up with your writing and see it through to the end if it's something you care deeply about. I love writing and I love reading so both writing and being able to Beta read are two positives for me. If I offer up ideas I never try to change the original author's ideas because I believe every author has the right to have their own ideas be carried out, but sometimes they need a little help along the way. I'm also very reliable. If I agree to do something I will see it through and I promise to try to do it in as timely a manner as possible for me. As long as you don't expect miracles of me and understand that I'm human and have a job and a life we should be fine. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at spelling, grammar checks, plot checking, continuity, sentence structure, making sure things are in the right POV, I put a lot of thought into all of my reviews and read every little bit and analyze every little bit, I know when to focus on the positive as well as critique the negatives in a nice, non degrading way, and I'm honest and I try not to sugar coat things. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Niceness is really my biggest weakness. I am not harsh at all and no matter what I will always find a positive in someone's writing. I don't like to see people's dreams get crushed and I believe that if someone wants to write something they should be allowed to and I tend to not be the type of person to tell someone if their idea is awful. Also, sometimes I have a little bit of trouble with punctuation. I'm also definitely not a human thesaurus, although I do have a good enough vocabulary it may not be as huge as others. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
My preferred interests are, but not limited to: romance, drama, suspense, and action. I am very huge on romance and deal with that the most as well as drama. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not really into horror much, or extremely sexually explicit writing. There's a such thing as too explicit and too much sex in writing and that's where I tend to draw the line. This doesn't mean I am opposed to mature sexual situations throughout a story. I'm fine with them as long as they don't go overboard on the explicitness. Other than that, I am pretty open to most things. |
