Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My experience of a Beta is mainly within the Naruto section, and those I have beta'd for will tell you that I will not Beta a piece of work if you;ve just spat it out of your mind and expect me to sort every little problem out. You will not learn that way, I believe a Beta should be there if you need help, or just to proof read it at the last minute. A beta is not at fault is a mistake is missed during publication as, truthfully, I am expecting you to have some sense of writer's pride and want to try and sort out any issues before you give it to a Beta to be checked over one last time, however I don't expect perfection before it gets to me, I would be there to make suggestions, correct any errors, spelling and grammatical that you, yourself may have missed. I would also pester you because I find it works in getting a story finished and if you need it I will attempt to inspire you. I'm willing to be that person you need to bounce idea's back and forth from as well, think of me as a secondry brain. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am quite a comedic person by nature, but I can also be serious whenever there is a need for it. If you need someone that can tell you if you are going too fast in a story, or too slowly, or even maybe not holding your character development highly, I will tell you; minding that it would be my own opinion telling you and you, evidently, are, therefore, not entitled to listen to if you think I'm sprouting a load of mushrooms. I also think I am fairly good at descriptions, action sequences, and paragraphing. I am fair with Spelling and Grammar and will use a dictionary or a secondry source aside from myself if I am truly not sure. I won't destroy what you worked hard to create. I think myself quite able as an idea bouncer, since I thrive on idea's, plots, and talking. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am a failure when it comes to Dialogue. I am trying to change this via various methods, such as, let's say, roleplaying, it's a highly imteresting way to evolve your skills, and personally I find it's a lot of fun to boot. If you have left a plot hole in the story, I am susceptible to not noticing it. I'm sorry, but if you're going to be sending me them weekly, monthly, bi-weekly or whatnot, I will not hold any responsibility over remembering all the finer details of your story. I tend to go easy on those who are my friends, unless the need for brutal honesty about their writing skills arises, which to be fair, is hardly ever. I am also troubled when it comes to acknowledging that there is a good flow to the story. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Yaoi. I will only Beta Yaoi. I am a vivid reader, and even then I am pairing picky. Here is my list of pairings I will Beta. RokuSora, RikuSora, RikuSoraRoku, AkuSoraRoku, SasuNaru, HibariTsuna, MukuroTsuna, AnyHotMalexTsuna, Tsuna is an Uke-Bicycle. SephiCloud, ZackCloud, SephiCloudZack, RenoCloud, I believe Cloud too is an Uke-Bicycle. Sorry, personal preference thrown in there heh. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Yuri, while I thoroughly enjoy a good Yuri fanfiction, I can't really see myself Beta-ing it unless it is a really good pairing and you and me have a good discussion about it. Het, full stop. I won't Beta Het. Male x Male equals Yes. Female x Female equals maybe. Male x Female equals No. If one of the main characters dies, I won't read it, let alone Beta it, eg: SasuNaru fanfiction, Sasuke dies equals No. I also dislike character bashing, but I can stand it for the sake of plot, or it is unavoidable within the story. |
