Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I seldom put myself forward for beta-ing but have beta-d for several friends on the site now and have decided it’s time I got off the fence. I will read most types of fanfiction from authors of varying experience. I don’t mind only checking for spelling and grammar issues or looking out for plot and characterisation issues as well. I tend to also occasionally make random comments on what I think of the chapter, for no more reason than it seemed like a good thing to do at the time.
I try hard to get chapters I am beta-ing back as soon as possible although occasionally RL may intrude, as I know it does for everyone.
All I would expect from someone I was beta-ing from is that they take on board what I say even if they don’t always make my suggested changes – it is, after all, their story. I’d hope they were polite and minded their Ps and Qs and sent me an annual virtual bouquet of flowers for my pains.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am English and have in the past changed speech and spelling for American writers who are trying to make characters British from Americanised English to the Queen’s English. In the fandoms that I write in I would consider myself a bit of a geek so my strengths would therefore include making sure a story was completely correct for that fandom. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a child, I never was a very good speller or punctuator and have always had a beta-reader in my writing to spot my occasionally blatant mistakes. I wouldn’t consider myself technically a very good writer and my personal spelling and punctuation is my weakest point. Having said that, I do have Spell-check and if I am not certain of something will spend however long it takes searching on the internet or flicking through a dictionary to make sure I’m telling a person correctly. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I will happily read most stories but tend to lean towards ones with adventure or mystery, and also enjoy a bit of humour and romance to add spice. I am a fan of both fantasy and sci-fi. I will read long or short stories and although I enjoy a complex plot don't mind stories with more focus on the characters. I don't mind Slash if it's IC and not rated too high. |

Nothing with too high a rating. I don’t like to read much Crack!Fic or where the characters are blatant OOC. |
