I beta-read much as I edit my own stories. I go through and look for grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes, continuity within the piece and with the canon it's set in. I check that both dialogue and actions are in character. Then I go through it again. And maybe again. I like everything to be as good as it can be.

I'll beta read for any fandom I'm familiar with, but the person has to be willing to accept advice or discuss points of disagreement between us. They have to be polite and they have to have a commitment to their story, if I'm going to have one to improving it.

I'm good with grammar and spelling, I'd say. But what I think I'm better at is keeping people IC and canon continuity. I like the characters in my fandoms-I like their quirks and oddities. I like their personalities or their development. I'm in the fandoms for a reason, after all.

Canon continuity-I love my canon. I have a good memory and I'm rather enthusiastic with the little details of the canon. It's the little things, not just the large events that shape the worlds, that create the characters, that force situations. It's the little details that I love to see in fandoms. Quite apart from that, I'm a good researcher. If I'm not sure about a line or two of important dialogue, I'll go check it.

On that note, I'm also good with many periods of history, so I can tell you a lot of the little details of life that make a fic more realistic and more well-rounded.

Also, it's not relevant to all authors, but I'm good with creating OCs who are plausible characters, with their own strengths and weaknesses. I can help writers make their characters real, likeable and help them to fit in in the universe they're inserted into.

My grammar is not as good as the rest of my abilities, I will say. I am adequate, I can probably catch most of the mistakes, but I'm not perfect.

I'm rather set in my perspectives of some characters, as well. I see them this way for these reasons, but I hope I'm able to see them in other ways provided there are justifications for it and/or plausible circumstances which have made them like that.

I will beta read for Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, King Arthur, D.Gray-Man, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Death Note, Rurouni Kenshin, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Doctor Who (new series) and Jane Austen.

I prefer fics with plot. This does not mean that it has to be an epic series of 100, 000 words, it just means that there has to be a point to it. I will be equally happy with a well-written drabble with meaning as with a 40, 000 word fic with slow development.

I prefer to read about the canon, but interesting-sounding AUs will grab me.

As for romance, I will read pretty much any pairing, be it homosexual or heterosexual, provided it is in-character.

I will absolutely not beta-read for people who will not attempt to improve their stories. I will not tolerate rudeness, or temper tantrums.

As for the actual content, I'd prefer not to read fics where the characters are unrecognizable. Meaning OOC. Unashamed OOC is not a good thing. I would also prefer to read fics where everything is plausibly developed, where the developments come about logically. Sudden, unexplainable love is not something that I find interesting.

Also, I'd rather not read character deaths unless they're canon.
