Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm willing to beta work that does not require a complete overhaul.
I read a lot. I read anywhere from 2-20 books a week. I can read a 400 page book in about 2-4 hours depending on style.
I recommend having a definite plan on a story ready before you even begin to write. You should certainly know the beginning, middle, and ending of a story if not the details when writing. If you don't have a full plotline, you'll end up with constant writer's block leaving the readers hanging months on end. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a nazi on spelling and correct punctuation. Overall, my grammar is moderate. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm straight to the point and I don't coddle the weak hearted. If you can't take constructive criticim, you shouldn't write. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I lean towards romance, fantasy, paranormal, erotica, and sci-fi reading materials.
I prefer to beta something that I have some knowledge of, be it book, anime, manga, or movie.
I read only Bleach fiction on this site, but depending on genre or show, I'm willing to beta other anime fics or books as long as I have knowledge of it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I have no patience for really bad writing that not only has horrible grammar, but the plot makes no sense. I will not rewrite someone's half-assed rough draft ideas. If you haven't spent at least an extra hour trying to edit your own work first, then I refuse to be your beta. You won't learn anything if you don't try to fix your own stuff first. It shouldn't take too much effort to capitalize the beginning of your sentences and put a proper punctuation at the end, or even run a spell checker on your story. That is just the basics of writing.
Completely implausible crack fics or pairings aren't really in my realm of readings either. |
