Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I was raised as a grammar Nazi, and from a young age have been obsessed with spelling. I'm also very aware of those stupid little shifts in tense - we all do them. With those noted, I can say that I'm very good at spotting the above. If asked to read something, I do so pretty much immediately. I am a very fast reader, and unless something major comes up in my life that needs attending to, I can't understand why I wouldn't have something done within 1-2 days, unless the story is particularly long, and then maybe 3-4 days.br /br /br /

I will say that I'd like to see something that has at least been written well- if it's clear that no thought has been given to spelling or grammar, I don't want to have to read it. I will find mistakes, not re-write your whole story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm strong in characterization, grammar checks, tense shifts and spelling. I can spot a character - if I know them - being OOC in a heartbeat. I can also spot errors in canon for certain series fairly easily. I'm also a bit of a walking dictionary/thesaurus. If you need ideas for changing up a word you feel you're using a lot, I can probably help there. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't think I'm the right Beta Reader for AU stories. If you can describe to me exactly how the character is supposed to act - e.g. just like themselves, only in a new environment - then I may say yes. But for the most part, I don't know how you're going with characterization or mood or feel or how the world is supposed to feel. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I am comfortable with reading gay or straight works, and can handle pretty much anything - i.e. disturbing images, kinks, abuse, smut, sex, gore, incest etc. Also, if it isn't listed in my preferences, that doesn't necessarily mean I won't read it! I know a lot more fandoms than are listed, I just haven't thought of them in a 'fic' way yet. Feel free to ask me about something not listed, and I can tell you whether or not I can help. :) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
NO CRACK FICS OR ON-PURPOSE OOC. I'd prefer not to read something with OC's in it as well. I can handle light AU, but I may turn you down if I feel I won't be able to keep a handle on the characterizations you're going for. Also, if your story delves into a part of a fandom that is a spoiler for me ( E.G; 6th season of Supernatural ) then I won't read it. |
