Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Greetings! I am the Editor-in-Chief of an amateur literary magazine and, under the cover of darkness, morph into a super kick-ass beta reader as well. I love to read. I love to write. I love to help other authors make their work even better. I want to help you, wherever you are in the writing process. I can be your plot sounding board or your nit-picky grammarian. Send me a PM and we'll talk.br /br /

I have two requests, though, if you are considering sending me a piece to beta. The first is about time: I have a busy life away from the world of fanfiction, and I will be as prompt as I can is reading your work. Do not, however, expect instant feedback, it might take me a couple days to find the time to do a thorough job with your piece. My second request is about effort: Please do not send me work that you have not at least given a once over yourself. Spell check doesn't cut it - I don't want to be guessing whether you meant, for instance, "here," "there" or "where." |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am fluent in the means and manner of literary critique and I know that there are great things about every piece of writing as well as things that could be improved. I also have a strong appreciation of a good, clear plot, and, if there is a phrase or passage that is confusing or detracts from the plot, I am unafraid to point it out. I have a good command of English grammar and vocabulary. I am not afraid to crack open and dictionary and/or Thesaurus to help you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have a tendency to be wordy as an author, using rather complex sentences when simpler ones would convey the same idea equally as well. This extends into my beta reading, as I, in the name of varied syntax, tend to want to combine two sentences into one complex one. Sometimes this is helpful, sometimes it is not. Also, I am not a person to come to if you want to check a lot cannon complacency issues. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love stories about relationships and people. To me any adventure is boring if the relationships between the characters aren't strong. I will work on any length work. Any kind of pairing is fine with me and I'm a pretty open minded person.br /br /

As far as fandoms, I will beta for any fandom I've written in (Check my author's profile), as well as several others. Right now, I'm especially interested in stories from: Harry Potter, Glee, Jane Austen, Castle, NCIS, Law and Order: SVU |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm okay with reading explicit content, but there are other people who can better help you when it comes to this sort of thing. The only kind of writing I absolutely won't read is song-fic. I don't listen to popular music and I don't enjoy reading them. Again, there are other people who can help you better. I will also refuse to read anything in the Twilight universe. |
