Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well 'ello there! I suppose you're looking at this because you're in need of a Beta Reader. Well, before you decided on me, you might as well learn a bit about my super fantastic self.
I like reading, it's a great hobby of mine, so it really irks me when someone writes a story with little to no actual effort put into it. I'm willing to help new writers who are interested and willing to put time into their work. However, if you're one of those people who supplement numbers for letters or use any other form of chat speak, or don't have any clue what proper punctuation is for, then I'm not wasting my time. So assuming you're really willing to give this an honest shot, then I'll lend a hand if I can. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm sorta nit-picky when it comes to stuff like spelling. I freely admit that even I let some words slip through the cracks in my own stories occasionally, but if I catch it, I correct it with haste. I'm a man very attached to his fandoms, so if I see something wrong factually, or if something is just really impossible in a certain genre/universe, then I'm gonna let you know.
I'm also a supporter of OC's. I'll be able to help you catch Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu behavior early, and save you the trouble of having to deal with people playing that card on you.
I'm also pretty good with fight scenes if my reviews are any indication. I can help you come up with attacks and weapons, or help you use attacks and weapons already in existence logically, and blend them together a smooth fight scene. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My biggest weakness as a writer and probably as a beta-reader, is that I tend to procrastinate...a lot. Don't be surprised if I don't get to your story right away, I'm a naturally lazy guy. I have a very short attention span, and I do a lot of things at different times. My work always depends on my mood; if I don't feel like doing something, I'm not gonna do it.
That, and I'm kinda picky about not only what fics I'll do, but also what characters are in them. If it's about a character or a pairing I don't like, I probably won't be very motivated to work on it, and when I do, and can't guarantee it's quality. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan, so if you have a KH story, you can bet I'll be interested. I'm also a Halo fanboy, so that's always something I'll consider. Thirdly, Devil May Cry is something I'll always be open to, except if it has anything to do with DMC2, just saying.
For Anime, I'll be happy to get involved with just about anything Naruto. I'm also a supporter of Bleach.
Avatar: The Last Airbender fics are also something I'll get in on. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
First of all, I must, must, MUST, get this out of the way: NO YAOI OR YURI! Anyone who asks me to do anything remotely close to yaoi or yuri is getting a big fat NO!
Other than that, just about the only reason I'll refuse beta-reading a fic is because I don't know much or anything at all about said show/game/movie. If I don't know what I'm reading, I won't be motivated to work on it, and you'll probably never see it again.
My last and final rule however is that, for some time now stories involving vampires (and sadly werewolves) are slowly but surely getting crappier and crappier, and by extension, the fan-fics are as well, so I have now enacted a very low vampire (and werewolf) tolerance policy. Unless I see "Alucard" somewhere in the story summary, you can pretty much forget it, because no matter how bad vampires at large might suck, Alucard will always be cool. |
