Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will work with you to make your story as strong as it can possibly be. To that end, I will be blunt. I'm not going to send it back to you with an, "it's all good," high five. I figure if you're sending it to me, there's something you want to work on.
It's my day job to work with writers (with more focus on character and plot devices rather than grammar and such), so this is not something that's new to me.
This bio is making me sound a little mean... really, I'm not. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I consider myself to be solid with grammar and punctuation. I am also pretty good at hashing out the elements of strong story telling from characterization to plot development (and all those things in between). |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't really do well with the technical, so I may not notice when a Ha'tak should be a Tel'tak and the like. That does not mean I won't ever notice it, just that it's not something I can say I'm extremely proficient with.
I don't do so well with script writing. I tend to write fluidly and like reading fluid writing as well. If you are writing a script, it's probably best to send it to someone who knows the genre better than I do. The same goes for poetry. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to read pieces that are three chapters or less. I just don't have a lot of time to put into works that are longer. I will read longer pieces, but you might want to run it past me before you send it on.
I really enjoy character driven writing. Action is fine, too, but only if there is someone I care about at the center of it.
I love to read S/J ship, hurt/comfort, whump, and episode tags/inserts... but I'm not limited to those things. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I prefer not to read slash stories or stories where Carter is a wimp (too blunt?). You should also know that if Jack cries, you've already lost me. I've said before I'm not into scripts. I love poetry, but wouldn't do it justice as a beta reader.
Crossovers are not my cup of tea, either. I'd look at one that's Stargate crossed over with Farscape. That's about it. |
