Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I can promise that I will point out any grammatical or spelling mistakes that I notice. Anyone wishing for me to beta for them should send a request, preferably by site PM. I ask that, in the request, you tell me the name of the fic, give me a brief summary of the part you want me to beta, all involved fandoms for the fic, and the expected rating of the fic. If I am not familiar with a source series for a fic, I will ask that you get an additional beta reader so that you will have someone familiar with the characters, and I will limit myself to grammar and spelling. What I do ask is that you read over my changes before posting the chapter; any notes I make in the story are for you directly and not for the readers. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at noticing spelling and grammatical errors, and have occasionally noticed things that have escaped other readers. I also can feel where the actual writing is awkward, but most of the time I just assume that sort of thing is deliberate. I have been told that I write excellent dialogue. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not very good at keeping characters in-character, and occasionally I'll get hung up on the small details. I'm also not a very good descriptive writer, preferring to lean a little too heavily on character interactions and dialogue. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer fics where (A) the characters are reading/watching about themselves, (B) the characters have to react to subtle (or occasionally, not-so-subtle) changes to what 'really happened', (C) one character is way out of character, and everyone else reacts, (D) time-travel fics (although I do have some reservations on these), and (E) anything that's a deliberate parody. If a fic is primarily light-hearted, or is focused more on character interactions, then I am more likely to prefer it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Anything that warrants (or you think warrants) an M rating, I reserve the right to pre-read before agreeing to beta. I personally do not like reading M-rated Fics. I also do not like fics that primarily are character-bashing, primarily angsty, primarily horror, or just another Rocks Fall Everyone Dies fic. For Crossovers, if it's not Parody, then please do not ask me to beta Eragon or Twilight crossovers. For Terry Brooks, please limit it to Landover fics. |
