Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I offer two kinds of beta-reading services. The first is a "quick reply" where I will simply read through the story, alter tricky phrasing/confused tenses/whatever I see. I may go ahead and change sentences slightly to better reflect the character, the flow of the story, or to clarify a meaning.
The second is a "detailed read" where I do the same thing but I will add in notes on the changes I made and why.
Turnaround on quick reads is generally under a day (whenever I next get online). Turnaround on detailed reads is generally about a week, but it can help you with any problems you have. Detailed reads are intended to be very educational.
With both, I will notice any consistant problems you have and point them out to you. I am happy to discuss these more in depth.
When it comes to TV shows, all the shows I have listed are the ones where I've got a good, solid knowledge of the characters, and I can tell you if something is in character or how to fix it so it is. If I've written a story in that genre, it's only because I've had enough experience with it that I feel comfortable writing those characters. While I have all books and movies listed, those are somewhat dependant on how familiar I am with the one in question. I can give you a general grammar overview on any genre.
Please send me an e-mail first checking that I'm accepting stories to beta. I'm a college student and tend to have weeks with almost nothing going on, and weeks with EVERYTHING going on. If I tell you it's okay, send your story to me as an attachment, in a .doc or .rtf file. DO NOT send it to me without asking me ahead of time, because I will just delete it.
For examples of what I've done previously, feel free to look at my work. I've never had a beta reader. Don't look at the old stuff first, though...I have definitely progressed as a writer over the years! |
