Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a very liberal dabbler in all things fiction. Was once an acquisitions editor for several publishers. Would like to help other writers as generous writers on the SVM site have helped me. Truthfully, I am more interested in providing developmental feedback for your fic. I am not a punctuation princess or a glamorous grammarian. I won't spend days correcting spelling errors that a spellcheck program would have found. I will read your story and draft comments identifying both strengths and weaknesses. If I see something egregious re: grammar, spelling, etc. I'll advise. Love to encourage new writers. Also encourage you to google anything iffy. It & Wiki my fav writing tools. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Feedback on consistency of your work, logical progression, taste, and hooks. Read quickly and will expedite my comments to you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Will only do one pass of your fic. Will not correct mistakes, but will provide positive feedback and encourage great writing. I do have a demanding career, so may not always be available, but will advise you quickly if I have a time conflict when you contact me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Prefer SVM/SSS stories that are OOC, AU. I like the unusual, the novel, the rare, the unique, cutting edge. Not interested in E/S meet cute, have fight, make-up, get married, have baby because there are many folks on site who will happily read your story and do a better job editing than I can. I'm fine with Mature Lemons (lots of them, all flavors, all continents), and slash, threesomes, etc. are good. Crossovers are good. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Sappy HEA won't hold my attention for very long. Planning to write a magnum opus? Not your best bet for a beta. And, I'd prefer stories that do not exceed twenty chapters. (that's lots of room to say everything on your mind, twice) Fem slash--sorry, no. Original songs, anime, etc. I know zero about these art forms. No help to you there. I would probably not be able to get through a story laced with incorrect verb tenses. 'They gone' 'She done' shudders. |
