Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a fast reader and come from a writing background. I generally line edit; I highlight whatever I have an issue with and then make comments below each paragraph. I am a member of a writers organization and critique frequently; I also work for a small e-publisher, performing both preliminary and final reads on manuscripts. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths are spelling, punctuation, & grammar, although I can't always tell you the official rule/reason behind why something is grammatically incorrect. I will generally confirm spelling questions using www.m-w.com. For punctuation, I defer to the Chicago Manual of Style or Strunk & White's Elements of Style.
I have extensive canonical knowledge for JAG, Sports Night, & BBC's Robin Hood. For all other shows, the movies, and the book series, I am knowledgeable but for the most part, it's been awhile since I've seen or read them. I continually watch Robin Hood, Sports Night, and one Star Trek series or another (currently, it's Voyager). |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I'm not always as tactful as I probably should be, but I try to be honest.
Turnaround time can sometimes be an issue if I've got a lot things going on at work, or a lot beta projects on my plate. Also, I generally do all my beta reading at my job (I'm the boss/I own the business), but I only work half days (12:30 to 5PM, Central/US), but we can determine deadlines as needed. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer het romances or action/adventure episode type stories. And generally speaking, I like character driven stories over plot driven. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash of any kind. Otherwise, I'm open to any other type of story. |
