Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I prefer to beta in Word using the comment features and text color changes to show what I've altered but I'm flexible. I don't mind working with non-native English speakers.
I expect anyone I beta for to be open to constructive criticism but to honestly love the fic they're writing and the genre it comes from and be willing to defend their choice of wording if they don't agree with a change I suggest. To that end, I only ever suggest a change. This is your work, I'm only here to help tweak it a bit. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have extensive knowledge of Star Trek cannon and can handle slash and het as well as most technobabble. I do pretty well with Harry Potter (pre-book 6) and Doctor Who (Rose era), but I am American so I'm not going to do much for your BritSpeak. My writing style is not formal and I tend to go for effect rather than grammatical perfection.
I am an academic librarian and from the United States.
My best talent is story continuity and characterization. I'm also very good and helping get people out of sticky corners they may have written themselves into. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Do not ask me to check your spelling; I'm a horrible speller so if spell check didn't catch it I won't.
I'm from the United States, so British English can be a challenge. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta stories with a good solid plot over PWP's. I enjoy slash and het as well as non-relationship based fic. I'm more apt to be of help with Star Trek fic at the moment, that or M*A*S*H. The other genre's I enjoy still have a lot of cannon I'm not 100% up on. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I do not care for drabbles or most crossovers. This is subject to exception, if you can make a case for a plausible crossover. |
