As a beta, I liked to start by giving a story an initial read through, making marks (thank you, MS Word!) where I see problem areas. I'll then give it a second read through with said marks turned off to catch anything I may have missed first time around. When it comes to tagging things, I'm more of a "suggester" than an "enforcer", I guess-- that is to say, most of what I will mark down (unless it's a rogue comma or a typo) is a suggestions, rather than a command to fix something. Please expect me to be harsh. I don't intend to be mean, and goodness knows I make my own mistakes when doing a first write through. When I'm done writing, I'll go through it with you and explain anything that might be confusing, perhaps if I made a note about plot or grammar. I liked to consider it more like giving an in-depth opinion rather than flat out editing. One thing I will not do is "be nice", as that really defeats the purpose of beta reading. If you're just looking for praise, I'm not the person to get it from. On that same token, if there's something you know is already amiss, such as a plot point that hasn;t been hammered out, then please let me know, and I'll take that into account, although I may choose to give some opinion on it still. After all, new ideas can never hurt, right?

My strong points are English grammar and plot. I don't necessarily like to tell someone how their plot should go, but I do tend to notice if there is a gaping plot hole, and I'm always willing to assist in brainstorming way to fix this.

My biggest flaw is noticing when the wrong word has been used but has been spelled correctly, e.g., using then for than, there for their, stuff like that. Sometimes I catch it, sometimes I miss it. This is why I do more than one read through, in attempt to catch those sorts of things, but sometimes I still miss it.

I'm a sucker for romance and fluff. I can't help it, I'm a romantic at heart.

I'm iffy on slash, since it really just isn't my cup of tea. I might if it looks good, and it can't hurt to ask. The one thing I will not read is anything with a tragic ending. Tragic endings and me don't really mix very well.
