Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm generally a tough editer--I'll read through things many times and pick at the things that annoy me. I'll never allow spelling or grammatical errors, and I do my best to not allow a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu into a story. Anyone that asks me to beta them should be ready to not bawl if and when I give them my honest opinion. If you want me to keep beta-ing you, then don't bother whining about the fact that I'm changing your story or that it's already good enough. If you do that, you should probably start looking for a new beta.
Also, I don't want requests from someone who makes constant grammatical and spelling errors (oh, the spelling errors. I can't stand them.), and I expect you to at least be able to roughly format a story and to have at least a basic knowledge of the English language.
I don't like Mary-Sues, and if you have no clue what one is, look it up. I hate them, and I will not stand to see a story published with one that was beta-ed by me. So try not to create one--they make for horrific stories. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm excellent in grammar and spelling, so I will not allow them. Not to brag, but I've had over a hundred percent in English for months now, and I'm not about to let that down, if that tells you anything. I'm not perfect at finding and destroying Mary-Sues, but I promise I'll do my best to completely get rid of them. Then there's plot--I'll not beta a story with no point to it. If it doesn't have a point other than to please your fangirlish desires and to seem like "realistic life," then don't bother sending me a request. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm often too nice. It's not so much a bad thing for you as it is for me, but I'm most definitely too nice most of the time. I'm working on getting harsher, as that'll only help the person writing the story, as well as me.
Also, like stated above, I'm not perfect at picking out Mary-Sues, but I do my best so don't fret. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can beta stories from a variety of fandoms in all different sections of Fan Fiction, but please don't send me anything not from my preferences.
I prefer action, suspense adventure, friendship, and even drama if I have to. I don't generally enjoy romance--it's not my preference--but if you think your fic may be really good, then go ahead and send it to me. I'll beta it if I have to. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't generally mind anything, but nothing above T rated, please. I don't mind swearing at all, or even a bit of violence, but I don't want anything higher than that. It's just not my style, so find someone else for that. |
